São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola will harmonise the assessment and accreditation of their higher education institutions. The agreement provides, among other things, for exchanges of assessors, the recognition of qualifications and the creation of a bilateral technical committee, according to São Tomé and Príncipe’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Higher Education.

The bodies responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe have signed a cooperation agreement in Luanda. São Tomé and Príncipe’s Ministry of Education says the protocol provides for exchanges of assessors, the sharing of accreditation procedures and closer alignment of rules for recognising qualifications.

The agreement brings together INAAREES, Angola’s institute for the assessment and accreditation of higher education, and ANRES, São Tomé and Príncipe’s higher education regulatory agency. A bilateral technical committee, with equal representation and up to six members, will prepare two-year action plans and monitor objectives. It will meet once a year, alternating between Luanda and São Tomé.

The protocol took effect upon signature for an initial period of five years, renewable. It also provides for the sharing of experts and the strengthening of both bodies’ technical capacity, according to São Tomé and Príncipe’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Higher Education.
