US immigration officials have revoked the legal status of 2.2 million people, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced, as part of the immigration enforcement policy of the Trump administration. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin presented the figure on Thursday 29 October as the fulfilment of a campaign promise by President Donald Trump.
These revocations are in addition to deportations carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and visa cancellations by the State Department. Mullin warned in a post on X that people who break US immigration laws would no longer be tolerated, Tuko reports.
Since returning to the White House, Donald Trump has declared a state of emergency at the southern border and deployed troops to support enforcement operations. ICE has also stepped up arrests and deportations across the country, according to Tuko. The media outlet says the campaign targets undocumented people, but the passage provided does not detail the criteria applied to the revocations.
