This roundup covers the week’s exchanges on voter registers, President Bola Tinubu’s borrowing and political nominations in Nigeria. It also reports divisions over campaign incidents, according to Premium Times.

In Nigeria, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) have asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct data deemed questionable in the voter register before its certification. INEC promised to examine and rectify the errors, according to Premium Times.

The political roundup published on Friday also covers President Bola Tinubu’s defence of public borrowing, disputes linked to nominations, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) support for his candidacy and conflicting accounts of campaign incidents. The controversy over the electoral data comes after INEC recorded 5,400 challenges to the register and promised credible elections for the 2027 poll.

The report also returns to differing positions on the Bola Tinubu government’s borrowing, while 65% of revenue is devoted to debt servicing, as well as the PDP’s support for the president in the 2027 election. The electoral commission had also announced strengthened security ahead of the poll.
