APC officials in Lagos say Peter Obi, the Democratic Congress of Nigeria’s presidential candidate, poses no threat to the party in the state. They say they have corrected the mistakes that led to Bola Tinubu’s defeat in Lagos in 2023, according to Vanguard, as the APC prepares for the 16 January 2027 presidential election.
Nigeria’s ruling APC says it has corrected the mistakes that caused it to lose Lagos in the 2023 presidential election and does not consider Peter Obi, the NDC candidate, a threat in the 16 January 2027 election. Adejumbo Omofumilewa, director general of the Iyaloja General Movement in Lagos, said on Thursday that the party was now capable of winning the state, according to Vanguard.
The Iyaloja General Movement, created by President Bola Tinubu’s daughter, Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, claims to have more than 2,500 support groups integrated into its organisation. Its national director general, Nasiru Ladan, said the movement was building a voter database down to neighbourhood level in order to turn this local presence into votes for Tinubu’s re-election, according to Vanguard.
The mobilisation comes after the alliance concluded on 30 October between the APC’s Osun State branch and Governor Ademola Adeleke to support Bola Tinubu’s re-election. This follows the party’s recent initiatives in support of the president, including the Osun APC’s alliance with Adeleke.
