Former Niger State Commissioner for Information Jonathan Tsado Vatsa has joined the Social Democratic Party with 200 former supporters of the All Progressives Congress. They formalised their membership in Niger State after leaving the ruling party, ThisDay reports.

Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, former Niger State Commissioner for Information and former APC official, has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 200 former supporters of the ruling party. The membership ceremony was held on Wednesday in Anguwa-Gulu ward, in Lapai constituency, according to ThisDay.

The ward’s SDP chairman, Adamu Mohammed Baba, presented Jonathan Vatsa with membership card number N10120100001. The 200 supporters also received their cards after handing in their former APC cards, ThisDay reports.

Adamu Mohammed Baba described Jonathan Vatsa as an influential political figure and said his grassroots experience could help the SDP take power in Niger State in 2027. Vatsa announced on Monday that he was leaving the APC, which he accused of becoming a “haven for corruption and bad governance”.

The move comes amid political realignments in Nigeria, following the Osun ADC’s call to defeat the APC in 2027 and the alliance concluded on 30 October between the Osun APC and Ademola Adeleke to support Bola Tinubu’s re-election, according to the Osun ADC’s call and the Osun APC’s alliance with Adeleke.
