Former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha says he will launch a “rainbow coalition” to support Bola Tinubu’s re-election and calls Governor Hope Uzodimma an opportunist. His remarks follow a legal dispute over the APC’s senatorial candidacy in Imo State, Punch reports.

Former governor of Nigeria’s Imo State Rochas Okorocha has announced that he will form a “rainbow coalition” to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He made the statement on Thursday on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, Punch reports.

Okorocha likened his plan to the coalition proposed by Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He said he wanted to move beyond political divisions and bring together support for Tinubu in Imo State.

The former governor also called his successor, Hope Uzodimma, an opportunist and said he could not match his popularity in Nigeria’s South-East. The two men are in dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the Imo West Senate seat in the 2027 elections. Okorocha welcomed a federal court ruling on the primary. The Independent National Electoral Commission recognised Uzodimma as the winner, with 230,464 votes against Okorocha’s 1,098, while a separate document that circulated attributed victory to the latter with 150,780 votes.
