The Bayelsa State branch of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted President Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the National Rainbow Coalition, ThisDay reports. The decision was formalised at an expanded meeting of the state caucus and the party’s executive committee in Yenagoa.

The meeting also approved a vote of confidence in Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and national leader of the coalition. Bayelsa PDP chairman George Alabh Turnah praised his role in preserving the party as an opposition force, according to ThisDay.

Turnah also accused the Bayelsa government of economic mismanagement and condemned shortages of medicines and staff at primary health centres. He also criticised the government for failing to make public its spending on state projects, including the celebrations for Bayelsa’s 30th anniversary.
