The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Russia signed three bilateral agreements in Moscow on Friday 30 October, including one establishing an intergovernmental commission to structure and monitor their cooperation, according to the Congolese presidency as cited by Beto. The texts also cover education and health.
The agreements were signed after a meeting between Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace, following the third Russia-Africa summit. The Congolese presidency said the commitments were non-financial in nature and that a five-year health cooperation memorandum had already been signed on 28 October.
Félix Tshisekedi defined five priorities for the partnership between the two countries: peace and diplomacy, security, agriculture, energy, and technological and digital innovation. He reaffirmed Kinshasa’s intention to diversify its partnerships autonomously and on a non-aligned basis, according to the Congolese presidency. The signing follows Tshisekedi’s request to Moscow to implement resolutions on eastern Congo, made on 29 October.
