DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi asked Russia to support the implementation of UN resolutions on the conflict in the east of the country. He also called on Moscow to back mediation efforts by Washington and Doha at the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, Beto reports.
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi called on Russia on Thursday 29 October 2026 to support the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2773 and 2808 on the crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as mediation efforts by Washington and Doha. He was speaking in Moscow before the third Russia-Africa summit, according to Beto.
Resolution 2773, unanimously adopted on 21 February 2025, notably demands the withdrawal of Rwandan troops and an end to parallel administrations in the east of the DRC. Félix Tshisekedi is asking Russia to act on its implementation while Moscow holds a permanent seat and veto power on the Security Council, according to Beto.
The head of state also condemned the illicit exploitation of natural resources as a factor fuelling armed conflicts. The US Treasury Department on Wednesday 28 October sanctioned Rwanda’s Defence Ministry and the financial institution Zigama, accusing them of contributing to the transport to Kigali of gold extracted from territories controlled by the M23, according to Beto.
This intervention follows Kinshasa’s demand on 18 October for verifiable measures from Kigali, followed by the refocusing of diplomatic coordination on the Congolese Foreign Ministry, announced on 25 October.
