The document still needs approval before guiding the implementation of the Washington Agreement’s security commitments, according to US authorities.

Military planners from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda met in Garmisch, Germany, to draw up a draft operational order aimed at implementing the security commitments of the Washington Agreement for peace and prosperity. The joint security coordination mechanism, meeting under US auspices, is working in particular on the disarmament of the FDLR by the DRC and the withdrawal of Rwandan forces, according to a US statement reported by Taarifa.

The draft still has to be approved before guiding the implementation of these commitments. The African Union, Qatar and US partners also took part in the discussions.

The meeting is part of the implementation of the Washington Agreement, which provides for the disarmament of the FDLR in the DRC. On 18 October, Washington also demanded the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from the DRC.
