The Bloc des 5 contests the 12 October ruling in which Gabon’s Constitutional Court declared itself incompetent to hear the Republican and Democratic Party’s appeal against the law on political parties. The five parties are seeking mediation by the Economic Community of Central African States, according to GabonActu.
The Bloc des 5, a coalition of Gabonese political parties, is asking the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) to intervene in the dispute over the law on political parties. It contests the Constitutional Court’s ruling of 12 October, which declared itself incompetent to hear the appeal by the Republican and Democratic Party (PRD), GabonActu reports.
The call for mediation comes after the PRD referred the matter to the Constitutional Court and five Gabonese parties challenged the reform. The Bloc des 5 believes ECCAS should help find a political solution to the dispute, according to GabonActu.
The PRD’s appeal to the Constitutional Court was filed on 1 October. The collective challenge to the reform of the political parties law was made public on 16 October.
