The Gabonese government aims to build affordable homes priced between 12 million and 15 million CFA francs, an ambition presented in Libreville on 29 October 2026. Housing Minister Mays Mouissi is asking banks for long-term mortgages, while monthly payments, deposits and additional costs will determine whether people can actually access the homes, according to Direct Infos Gabon.

The Gabonese government wants to develop affordable housing priced between 12 million and 15 million CFA francs and is calling on banks to offer long-term mortgages, Direct Infos Gabon reported at the opening of the Housing Open Days on 29 October 2026 in Libreville.

By way of example, a 12 million CFA franc loan repaid over 20 years amounts to 50,000 CFA francs a month, excluding interest, insurance and additional charges. For a home costing 15 million, the basic monthly payment is 62,500 CFA francs, according to the outlet. A personal deposit, application fees, utility connections and equipment can add to the purchase cost.

Housing Minister Mays Mouissi has called on banks to develop long-term financing. Social housing provided by the National Real Estate Company (SNI), the Gabonese state-owned company responsible for building it, has previously been offered with monthly payments of 100,000 to 150,000 CFA francs and initial deposits considered beyond the reach of many households, reports Direct Infos Gabon.

The government will have to specify final prices, loan rates and terms, required deposits and eligibility criteria, as well as the cost of serviced plots. The quality of construction and access to essential amenities are also among the factors that will determine whether households can actually afford these homes, according to the outlet.
