The Gabonese government will begin clearing the rights-of-way along two roads in Greater Libreville on 4 November, where 270 buildings have been identified, government spokesman and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Transformation Emmanuel Eyeghe Nze announced on Monday 26 October at a press briefing reported by AGP.
The operations concern the Okala dispensary-Okala SEEG power station and Lac Bleu-Diba Diba sections. The upgraded roads are to be 30 metres wide and include two lanes in each direction, pavements and emergency stopping lanes. The first section has 67 buildings within its right-of-way, compared with 203 for the second.
To support the affected residents, the government plans to provide financial housing assistance and plots of land in Malibé, in Akanda municipality. The Minister of Public Works has been instructed to urgently develop the sites. Emmanuel Eyeghe Nze also said consultations were under way with residents’ groups.
