Gabonese journalists have established the Gabonese Association of Judicial Press in Libreville and adopted its statutes and internal regulations. Gaël Bobouagno Lenga heads the interim bureau, which plans, among other things, to provide training on judicial procedures and professional ethics, reports the Gabonese Press Agency.
Journalists established the Gabonese Association of Judicial Press (APJ Gabon) at a constituent general assembly held last weekend in Libreville. Participants adopted the organisation’s statutes and internal regulations. It will be led on an interim basis by Gaël Bobouagno Lenga, according to the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP).
APJ Gabon plans to train journalists in legal procedures and terminology, as well as in respecting the presumption of innocence, the secrecy of judicial investigations and the protection of sources. It also wants to strengthen exchanges between newsrooms and judicial institutions while preserving journalists’ independence. Jean-Claude Afa, an independent journalist and member of the National Network of Independent Journalists (RENAJI), chaired the constituent assembly, under the supervision of Me Bruno Mbina Mbina, a bailiff tasked with drawing up the declaration report for submission to the Ministry of the Interior.
The association was established following the opening of the 2026-2027 judicial year in Gabon on 5 October. Gaël Bobouagno Lenga said that covering the justice system required “specialised knowledge, precise terminology and constant vigilance”, according to the AGP.
