The Assembly of Telecommunications Regulators of Central Africa (ARTAC) adopted new statutes, internal regulations and financial regulations during its fourth extraordinary session in Libreville. It also approved the accession of São Tomé-et-Príncipe, represented by its General Regulatory Authority (AGAR), the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP) reports.
These texts are intended to modernise the functioning of the organisation, which brings together telecommunications regulatory authorities from Central Africa. Its executive president, Christian Katende, said that AGAR’s arrival would promote the sharing of experience and the harmonisation of regulatory frameworks in the sub-region, according to AGP.
Participants called for the roadmaps drawn up by ARTAC’s six permanent working groups to be implemented. The aim is to turn the session’s resolutions into concrete actions for regional digital development, AGP reports.
The session was held a few days after Central African investigators were trained in cryptocurrencies and the darknet in Libreville.
