A regional seminar on financial investigations, cryptocurrencies and the darknet is bringing together investigators and magistrates in Libreville from 20 to 27 October, reports the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP), citing the communications department of the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies (ANINF). The training brings together participants from countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The sessions notably focus on blockchain analysis, tracking cryptocurrency transactions, preserving digital evidence and cross-border cooperation. The director-general of ANIF, the National Agency for Financial Investigations, Guennolet Boumas Ngabina, stressed the importance of identifying beneficial owners and using digital evidence in judicial proceedings.
The seminar is being organised as part of SecFin Africa, a programme supported by the European Union, the Action Group against Money Laundering in Central Africa and Interpol. It aims to strengthen the detection of financial offences, the fight against money laundering and the recovery of criminal assets.
The training builds on ANINF's cybersecurity activities. On 18 October, the agency had presented its cyber expertise in Rabat.
