More than 227 people took beginner Russian courses in 2026 at the Russian Cultural Centre in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, compared with the usual figure of about 200 participants. Certificates were presented on Saturday 24 October at the centre, according to an account by the institution.

Some participants have already received scholarships to continue their studies in Russia, while others are considering this possibility. The courses were organised around three programmes focused on discovering Russia, first words in Russian, and expanding vocabulary and communication skills. They were taught by Anna Shevchenko and Elena Bajánova, with support from the Russian Ministry of Education, the ‘My History’ Foundation, Saint Petersburg State University and the African Initiative agency.

The ceremony ended with cultural activities, including a tasting of blinis, a Russian non-alcoholic berry drink, musical performances in Russian and Spanish, and a photographic area. Equatorial Guinea’s Ministry of Education encouraged participants to continue learning foreign languages.
