The World Food Programme (WFP) has equipped 15 schools in São Tomé and Príncipe with solar panels and kitchen equipment, improving the preparation and storage of school meals, according to its September 2026 country report. The initiative benefits 4,075 people, including 4,000 pupils and 75 school and canteen staff.
The Green Infrastructure for Health and Education project also supplied electric pressure cookers and refrigerators to the selected schools. Staff at beneficiary schools received training and equipment to manage the canteens. The WFP says the equipment has supported the day-to-day operation of school meal services since the start of the school year.
In September, the agency also took part in a workshop to validate the national food guide and in the closing of the COMPRAN project. It continued supporting the government through the School Meals Accelerator Initiative, an international platform focused on strengthening school meal programmes.
