Burkina Faso has provided 2,025 bicycles and 17,820 school kits, worth a total of 745,085,640 CFA francs, to pupils at 135 middle and high schools across 13 regions. The supplies were handed over by the Ministry of Health in Ouagadougou on Tuesday 20 October 2026 as part of the SWEDD+ project, with support from the World Bank.
The assistance aims to make it easier for pupils to travel to school and improve adolescent girls’ learning conditions. It is targeted in particular at disadvantaged pupils, girls who have returned to their communities and internally displaced people, according to Michel Ouoba, coordinator of the Health Development Support Programme.
Health Minister Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou and Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training Moumouni Zoungrana co-chaired the ceremony. Kargougou said almost all the supplies had already been delivered or were in the process of being delivered to the beneficiary regions.
The distribution adds to other initiatives supporting education in Burkina Faso, including school kits provided by the AEFA association to 100 children in Ouagadougou on 13 September, and school kits distributed by the Nong-Taaba association on 4 October.
