Some 7,222 children, including 3,040 girls, joined the Ivorian school system between 2023 and 2026 after attending bridge classes, according to Annita Suzanne Traoré, director of non-formal education, Ivoireactu reported. These programmes cater for children aged 9 to 13 who were outside the school system.
A total of 500 bridge classes put forward 13,034 children, including 5,592 girls, for integration into formal education. The fourth and final cohort of the CLEF project involves 165 classes for 4,950 children in six cocoa-producing regions: Nawa, Lôh-Djiboua, Haut-Sassandra, Guémon, Marahoué and San Pedro.
The CLEF project aims to provide a second chance at education to 19,800 children in cocoa-growing areas over four years. Ivory Coast’s Ministry of National Education wants to use training for those involved in the programme to improve educational support and help children stay in the school system.
