São Tomé and Príncipe: BISTP refunds erroneous debits

BISTP, a credit institution in São Tomé and Príncipe, cancelled debits mistakenly made to several customers’ accounts and returned the sums on 21 October. The debits related to the annual fee for its online banking service, but a processing error affected their amount and description, the bank said.

The International Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe (BISTP) cancelled and refunded erroneous debits made to several customers’ accounts on 21 October, the bank announced. The transactions, described as fees for remote banking contracts, related to the annual charge for its online banking service.

The bank explained that a processing error had affected both the description and the amount debited, because the legally applicable taxes had not been included. The sums were credited back on the same day, a few hours after the debits.

BISTP plans to charge the annual subscription later at its current rate, including taxes and with a corrected description. The bank apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused.
