The Gabonese Food Safety Agency (AGASA) and Customs seized 83,880 eggs imported from Cameroon, weighing more than five tonnes, in Bitam on Saturday 24 October 2026. The goods were declared unfit for consumption, reports Directinfosgabon.
Initial analyses reportedly found prohibited chemical substances, while the shipment was allegedly subject to a false customs declaration. The eggs were destroyed under supervision at the municipal landfill, according to the media outlet.
The case follows several alerts about food products in Gabon. In September, two juice brands were withdrawn from the market after a health alert, then 6,035 infested bags of rice were removed in Port-Gentil. These cases highlight the challenges of inspecting imported products and protecting consumers: the infested bags of rice removed in Port-Gentil.
