Congolese MP Geneviève Inagosi wants the 2027 budget to redirect funding from programmes deemed non-priority or poorly implemented to defence and security. She also advocates support for the local arms industry and training for the forces, during the budget debate at the National Assembly on 29 October, according to Desk Eco.

Congolese National Assembly member Geneviève Inagosi on Thursday 29 October called on the government to reallocate funding for programmes considered non-priority or poorly implemented to defence and security in the 2027 budget. She was speaking during a National Assembly debate on the finance bill presented by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa.

Inagosi said the bill spread national efforts across too many strategic objectives. She called for a significant increase in investment and spending devoted exclusively to defence and security, as well as direct funding for the local arms industry and the training of the defence and security forces, in order to reduce dependence on imports.

The prime minister said during her presentation of the bill that a large share of the budget would be allocated to national defence. The debate also concerns the objectives of DR Congo’s 2027 budget, which Inagosi considers poorly aligned with its priorities.
