Congolese MP Adel Kayinda called in the National Assembly for targeted investment in agriculture, fishing and livestock farming, as well as in storage, processing and distribution. She said these sectors must contribute to food security and improved living conditions during debates on the 2027 budget on 29 October 2026.

Congolese MP Adel Kayinda called on the National Assembly on Thursday, 29 October, to make targeted investments in agriculture, fishing and livestock farming to improve living conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “Food security […] cannot rest on statements or intentions,” she said during debates on the 2027 budget.

The former Minister of the Portfolio also called for investment in the storage, processing and distribution of agricultural products. She highlighted the potential of fishing, citing the country’s fishery resources and river network, as well as opportunities for inland, lake and river fishing and aquaculture.

Several other MPs said that the resources allocated to agriculture, fishing and livestock farming were insufficient. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa and her government, for their part, said that improving living conditions would be taken into account in implementing the next budget.

The government presented the 2027 budget, worth $24.8 billion, on 29 October. It forecasts inflation of 6.4%, according to the budget forecasts.
