Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has invited Russian companies to invest in mechanised agriculture, industry, infrastructure, transport and several other sectors. At the Russia-Africa summit, he presented such investment as a way to diversify the economy and create jobs, particularly for young people and women.

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Thursday invited Russian companies to invest in several strategic sectors in Mozambique, including mechanised agriculture, industry, infrastructure, transport and logistics. He spoke at the plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit, according to Club of Mozambique.

Chapo also cited energy, tourism, digital transformation and the blue economy as priority areas. He called for increased cooperation in education, technical and vocational training, health and scientific research, so that investment would sustainably strengthen national capacities and create jobs, particularly for women and young people.

The president called for stronger international cooperation against terrorism, transnational organised crime, money laundering and cyber threats. He also said the summit’s action plan should be based on clear priorities, defined responsibilities and monitoring mechanisms. On climate, he argued for funding that would enable the transition to a green economy without compromising African development, as well as permanent African representation on the UN Security Council.

The invitation follows Maputo’s efforts to broaden its economic ties with Moscow. On 26 October, Chapo had already called for economic cooperation with Russia to be expanded.
