Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and Dmitry Medvedev discussed expanding economic and trade exchanges between Maputo and Moscow. The meeting took place ahead of the third Russia-Africa meeting, which Chapo is attending in Russia, according to the AIM agency.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the third edition of the Russia-Africa summit, which opens on Tuesday in Moscow. Chapo said he wanted to extend the partnership between the two countries to sectors likely to boost trade. Leaders attending the summit are expected to adopt three texts: a final declaration, an action plan for 2027-2029 and a declaration on cooperation in the peaceful use of artificial intelligence technologies.
The meeting is part of a series of steps by Maputo to diversify its partnerships. On 29 September, Chapo discussed strengthening cooperation between Mozambique and Botswana (Mozambique-Botswana cooperation). On 26 October, he also expressed his desire to consolidate ties with Brazil after Lula’s re-election (relations with Brazil).
