Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi defended diversified partnerships based on peace, sovereignty, jobs and energy in Moscow during the third Russia-Africa Summit. He asked Russia to support UN resolutions 2773 and 2808 and mediation efforts by Washington and Doha, according to his speech.
The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, on Thursday 29 October in Moscow defended the diversification of his country’s partnerships in the name of sovereignty and freedom of decision-making. He called for cooperation focused on peace, security, job creation and better African representation in global governance, according to Alwihda Info.
At the third Russia-Africa Summit, Félix Tshisekedi asked Russia to support implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2773 and 2808 on eastern DR Congo, as well as mediation efforts in the Washington and Doha processes. He condemned the illicit exploitation of natural resources, which he accused of fuelling armed conflicts, and called for the restoration of state authority throughout the territory.
The Congolese head of state also listed energy, infrastructure, local processing of minerals and food security among Kinshasa’s priorities. The DRC, a non-permanent member of the Security Council for 2026-2027, also wants reform of the body to increase African representation, according to Alwihda Info. This position came on the same day as the Congolese request to Moscow concerning resolutions on eastern Congo.
