Nigeria’s voter register has surpassed 103 million registered voters, INEC chairman Joash Ampitan announced. Physical registration has ended nationwide ahead of the 16 January 2027 general elections, according to the commission’s report.

Nigeria’s national voter register has surpassed 103 million registered voters, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Friday 30 October 2026, ahead of the general elections on 16 January 2027. Its chairman, Joash Ampitan, said the physical registration of voters had been completed, according to the report published by INEC.

At a meeting with an ECOWAS delegation, INEC presented the tools planned for the election, including the BVAS biometric system for checking fingerprints and biometric data. The commission also plans to use the eEC8A platform to verify the management of results, alongside the IReV publication portal, according to INEC.

Joash Ampitan described the January 2027 elections as a “crucial milestone” for Nigerian democracy and pledged to organise a credible, transparent and peaceful poll, according to INEC. The presentation follows the publication online of the preliminary voter register on 26 October and comes as the House requested an assessment of INEC’s preparations on 29 October.
