The intervention was carried out by migration management and border patrol units based in Tanji, in collaboration with national and international partners, Senego reports. The suspect was handed over to investigators for further inquiries, according to Seneweb and Senego.
The interception took place on the same day as that of 121 people seeking to leave irregularly, announced in The Gambia. It also followed the interception of 222 migrants, including 180 Senegalese, reported on 28 October, according to Seneweb.
The GID presents the operation as a new stage in its efforts against irregular migration. The EMSF is calling for greater public awareness and community participation, as well as the creation of sustainable opportunities for young people to prevent departures, Senego reports.
