Sudanese leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has proposed that Russia support storage infrastructure and a logistics corridor from Port Sudan, with a possible extension to Chad. He raised the transport of grain and fuel and the extension of a railway line during his meeting with Vladimir Putin, Alwihda Info reports.
Sudan’s Sovereignty Council chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has proposed that Russia take part in creating a logistics corridor linking Port Sudan to Chad, including through the extension of a railway line, Alwihda Info reports. He presented Sudan as a gateway to the Red Sea and raised the possibility of storage facilities for grain and fuel.
Al-Burhan said there was strong demand for wheat and fuel in Sudan and other African countries. He said the network could build on existing infrastructure and called for Russian investment to develop it.
During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Sudanese leader also said Khartoum intended to conduct its foreign policy without a third country dictating its course.
The proposal follows Sudan’s presentation to Russia of a plan for an economic zone on the Red Sea, announced on 30 October. Al-Burhan was also taking part in the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, according to our article on his participation in the Russia-Africa summit.
