Rapid Support Forces drones struck an electricity substation under construction and an oil pumping station in Haya, eastern Sudan, causing fires and damage. The attack follows another one in the same town three days earlier, according to Sudan Tribune.
Drones attributed to the Rapid Support Forces struck Haya’s electrical transformer station in eastern Sudan on Saturday 31 October, as well as an oil pumping station connected to the pipeline leading to Bashair Port. The strikes caused fires and damaged the facilities, according to local sources cited by Sudan Tribune.
It was the second attack on Haya’s energy infrastructure in three days. The electrical station, whose construction was well advanced and which was expected to help supply Port Sudan, was hit by missiles launched by a strategic drone, according to the sources. More than 13 electricity distribution stations have already been damaged in several states controlled by the Sudanese army, causing power cuts in several cities, reports Sudan Tribune.
The attack is part of a series of strikes targeting Sudan’s energy facilities. It follows the strikes on a power plant in Shendi, reported on 30 October, and Khartoum’s accusations against Ethiopia, which the Sudanese government suspects of facilitating the launch of drones from its territory on 28 October.
