Christophe Bazivamo, secretary-general of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, called on Rwandans living in Europe to contribute to their country’s development, with the aim of eliminating poverty by 2050. At a meeting in Warsaw on 30 October 2026, he said the share of the population below the poverty line had fallen from 78% in 1994 to 27%, and that annual growth would need to exceed 10% to reach the target.
Rwanda wants to reduce to zero the share of its population living below the poverty line by 2050, compared with 27.8% currently. Christophe Bazivamo, secretary-general of the ruling FPR-Inkotanyi party, presented this objective on 30 October in Warsaw, during a meeting with young Rwandans living in Europe, reports Panorama Rwanda.
To achieve this target, Rwanda’s economy will have to grow by more than 10% a year, compared with a rate close to 7% currently. Bazivamo called on Rwanda’s young people to put their skills and experience at the service of national development, saying that they would hold leadership positions in 2050.
The secretary-general of the FPR-Inkotanyi also said that gross domestic product per capita stood at $1,156 and that more than 80% of Rwandans used community health insurance. The growth target exceeds the 9.7% projection put forward on 6 October by Yusuf Murangwa to help repay the debt.
