A 35-year-old man from Rose-Hill was arrested on Friday 30 October 2026 in the investigation into the fatal assault of Selven Iyempermal, 34, in Vacoas, reports Defimedia. The Major Crime Investigation Team placed him in custody.
The assault took place on 27 October in a house where the victim was with a friend. According to the friend’s statement to police, six masked men, carrying among other things batons, a sword and a baseball bat, entered to demand money before beating Selven Iyempermal. His friend was also injured. Taken to Candos Hospital, Selven Iyempermal died the following day. An autopsy attributed his death to haemorrhagic shock caused by multiple injuries.
Seven other suspects were questioned by investigators. During a search of a drug rehabilitation centre in Vacoas on 30 October, police seized a 4x4 vehicle and a sword, which were placed under seal. Investigators are examining in particular the possibility of a drug-related settling of scores, which remains to be confirmed.
