Residents of Nouvelle-Découverte, Mauritius, mobilised on 30 October to demand fairer access to water, despite every-other-day distribution measures. They notably want water tankers and connection to the Eau-Bouillie network, reports Defi Media.
Residents of Nouvelle-Découverte, Mauritius, demonstrated on Friday to demand equitable access to water, including through the provision of water tankers. The mobilisation took place despite the Central Water Authority (CWA)’s every-other-day distribution system, reports Defimedia.
CWA agents and Govinden Venkatasami, MP for constituency number 8, visited the neighbourhood to listen to residents’ grievances. They are also asking to be connected to the Eau-Bouillie network, from which they have been excluded for several years, according to Defimedia.
The mobilisation comes after water rationing was introduced in Mauritius, notably in Curepipe and other areas affected by falling reserves. Every-other-day water distribution had been considered from 5 October 2026.
