Mauritius’s National Agency for Drug Control is warning of an increased risk of overdose in the coming weeks, due to a possible rise in the availability and purity of illicit drugs. Its director-general, Kunal Naik, is urging users to take care around substances that may be more concentrated and toxic, according to the agency’s statement.
Mauritius’s National Agency for Drug Control (NADC) has warned of an increased risk of overdose in the coming days and weeks. The recent arrival of a large quantity of drugs on the island could increase the supply of substances on the illicit market and their concentration of active ingredients, according to a statement published on Friday 30 October.
In its alert bulletin, the agency urged the public, particularly drug users, to take extra care around products that may be purer and more toxic. NADC Director-General Kunal Naik said the warning was intended to raise awareness of the possible dangers of substances that could be circulating on the market.
The NADC said harm reduction was part of care for those affected. It said an increase in purity and toxicity could raise the risk of overdose.
