Two visually impaired people were abducted by suspected kidnappers on Monday evening in Riyom Local Government Area, in Nigeria's Plateau State. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of 50 million naira to release the two victims, a man and a woman, according to Shindol Aaron, chairman of the Plateau chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, quoted by the Daily Post.
The victims were part of a group of nine people selected to attend training in neighbouring Benue State. The group had left Jos, but was told en route that the training had been postponed and returned towards the Plateau capital; seven people managed to escape during the abduction, which took place at about 8pm.
The incident was reported to security agencies, which are seeking to secure the hostages' release. It occurred amid several recent abductions in central Nigeria, including that of six people on the road to Adoka, reported on 2 November.
