Sam Onuigbo, a former Nigerian lawmaker and leader of a network supporting Bola Tinubu, says the president’s re-election in 2027 would preserve Nigeria’s economic progress. In Umuahia, he presented a campaign defending the continuation of reforms launched since May 2023, reports ThisDay.
The Strategic Mobilisation Network for Tinubu Continuity 2027, a Nigerian political mobilisation network, has backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Its patron, former federal lawmaker Sam Onuigbo, said in Umuahia, Abia State, that a change of government would jeopardise Nigeria’s economic progress, according to the newspaper ThisDay.
Sam Onuigbo said the network was created after a strategic meeting held on 28 August 2026 to take the message of continuity to markets, workplaces, schools, communities and places of worship. He based his argument on reforms launched since Tinubu took office on 29 May 2023, notably the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, according to ThisDay.
The official cited a fall in headline inflation from 36.4% to 14.63% in September 2026, GDP growth of 3.87% in 2025 compared with 3.38% in 2024 and 4.43% in the second quarter of 2026. He also mentioned foreign exchange reserves rising from $3.9 billion in 2023 to about $55 billion in October 2026, crude oil production increasing from 1.3 million to 1.73 million barrels per day, and domestic refining rising from 30,000 to 700,000 barrels per day, notably thanks to the Dangote refinery.
Sam Onuigbo also cited loans granted to more than 1.64 million students by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, worth 372.62 billion naira, as well as road projects and credit programmes for traders and artisans. This backing comes after Vice-President Shettima presented Tinubu’s economic reforms in Calabar on 3 November, and after several regional calls for his re-election published on 1 November.
