Madagascar’s 2027 finance bill earmarks more than 199 billion ariary for the Independent National Electoral Commission to prepare a referendum and the presidential election. The budget framework letter presents both deadlines as a state priority, according to L’Express de Madagascar.

Madagascar’s 2027 finance bill provides more than 199 billion ariary to organise a referendum and the presidential election, according to L’Express de Madagascar. The funds are included in the budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni), which is responsible for preparing the two votes scheduled for 2027.

This allocation is nearly four times the approximately 50 billion ariary allocated to the Ceni in the 2026 supplementary finance law. The bill does not divide the funds between the referendum and the presidential election, but the budget framework letter presents their preparation and conduct as a state priority, reports L’Express de Madagascar.

Madagascar’s head of state, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, said in September, on United Nations radio in New York, that he wanted to organise elections in 2027, according to the newspaper.
