The National Programme to Combat Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV/AIDS says the deaths highlight ongoing needs for prevention and care in Madagascar.
Between three and five young people aged 19 to 25 living with HIV die every week from AIDS-related causes at a major hospital in Antananarivo, according to data from the National Programme to Combat Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV/AIDS (PNLIS), which is attached to Madagascar’s Ministry of Public Health.
Those working to combat HIV examined the results of the national seroprevalence survey on 27 October at a meeting organised by the Ministry of Public Health at the Radisson Blu in Ambodivona. Access to early testing, prevention and keeping people living with HIV in the care pathway were among the priorities raised by the PNLIS.
