Madagascar’s President Michaël Randrianirina says the ministers accompanying him to Russia signed several bilateral agreements. The cooperation concerns mobile health laboratories, agricultural training, defence, higher education and mining governance, according to statements he made on his return to Ivato.
Madagascar’s President Michaël Randrianirina announced several bilateral agreements with Russia covering agriculture, defence, health, higher education and mining governance, on his return from the Russia-Africa summit in Ivato on Saturday. “All the ministers who accompanied me signed bilateral agreements,” he told the press, according to L’Express de Madagascar.
In healthcare, the agreements are expected to enable Madagascar to benefit from mobile laboratories based on Russian expertise. Agricultural discussions notably concern cooperation between the two countries’ ministries and the creation of a training centre. Moscow would also be prepared to increase the number of scholarships awarded to Malagasy students and recognise diplomas issued by institutions on the Big Island, according to Michaël Randrianirina.
The Malagasy president also said the commitments concluded in Moscow concern the fight against trafficking in mineral resources and cooperation in defence and security. The announcement follows Michaël Randrianirina’s presentation of Madagascar’s sovereignty at the Russia-Africa summit on 30 October, followed by his accession to the title of professor emeritus in Moscow, announced on 31 October.
