Antananarivo’s interconnected grid gained 3.4 megawatts through two generator sets installed in Ambohimanambola under the Malagasy Power project. The equipment was inaugurated on 30 October as falling water resources reduce production, L’Express de Madagascar reports.

Madagascar has added 3.4 megawatts to the production capacity of the Antananarivo interconnected grid (RIA) through two generator sets installed in Ambohimanambola. The equipment, inaugurated on 30 October as part of the Malagasy Power (MADO) project, is intended to support supplies to the capital and surrounding areas, L’Express de Madagascar reports.

Each generator provides 1.7 MW. This thermal production complements the other electricity sources used for the RIA, as declining water resources limit output from hydroelectric plants. The capacity increase forms part of an initiative launched in March 2026 by the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons and Jirama, which had called on operators and partners to propose additional resources.
