The Indian navy freed the 20 crew members of the Iranian fishing vessel Azini, captured by pirates off Puntland, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced. The operation lasted 48 hours and led to the arrest of around 10 pirates, according to Puntland Post.

Indian forces found the vessel near the Arabian Sea, more than 3,000 kilometres from the coast of Mumbai. The pirates reportedly used the Azini to try to seize other boats before the Indian navy intervened, Puntland Post reported.

The operation came after the Iranian fishing vessel Azini was hijacked off Puntland, an incident reported on 31 October in an earlier publication.
