African Ballon d’Or: Serhou Guirassy misses 10-player shortlist

The Confederation of African Football has selected 10 players for the 2026 African Ballon d’Or, without including Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy. The Borussia Dortmund centre-forward nevertheless scored 26 goals in 51 appearances during the 2025-2026 season, while Guinea did not participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Guinee360.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected 10 players for the 2026 African Ballon d’Or, without including Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy. Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Diaz, Sadio Mané, Ismaïla Sarr and Pape Guèye are among the nominees, reports Guinee360.

Guirassy scored 26 goals in 51 appearances for Borussia Dortmund during the 2025-2026 season, including 17 in the Bundesliga, four in the Champions League, four in the Club World Cup and one in the German Cup. He has therefore missed out on a third consecutive CAF Awards nomination, after appearing on the 2024 and 2025 lists, according to Guinee360.

Guinea did not participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after being eliminated in qualifying by Tanzania, who beat them 1-0. This absence from competition with the Syli national deprived Guirassy of continental exposure taken into account when evaluating the candidates, the Guinean media outlet explains. The striker had already reached 23 Champions League goals, as recalled in his European record.
