The Ivorian film “Ebinto”, adapted from Amadou Koné’s novel “Les Frasques d’Ébinto”, drew 2,509 spectators at its preview at the Grand Rex in Paris on 1 November, according to the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP). Four other screenings scheduled in the French capital have also sold out, according to the organisers.
Produced by Charly Kodjo and directed by Luc Gnépa, the feature film was shot in Ivory Coast with Ivorian actors. The additional screenings planned in Abidjan and Bouaké have also sold out, according to the organisers.
The film recreates the atmosphere of the 1960s and 1970s through its sets and costumes. Audiences are invited to attend screenings dressed in period clothing. “Ebinto” is NCI Création’s first film co-production; the company has previously produced the television series “Castes, Les Amours interdites”, “L’Agence” and “Zanka”.
NCI Director-General Ange Fabien Guei praised the work of the producer, director, cast and technical teams. Luc Gnépa spoke of reservations among financial partners because of his lack of experience in directing films. The Paris ceremony took place in the presence of Ivory Coast’s ambassador to France, Maurice Bandaman.
