Ivorians living in the United States can now register to obtain a national identity card (CNI) at the Ivory Coast embassy in Washington. The National Office for Civil Status and Identification (ONECI) system has been operational since Friday 30 October, according to an embassy note sent to the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP).
The initiative means that the nationals concerned do not need to travel to Ivory Coast to complete these formalities. At the launch, Ambassador Ibrahima Touré symbolically presented CNIs to several beneficiaries, including Ramatoulaye Coulibaly Bakayoko and Doris Koffi, who welcomed the simplification of the process, according to AIP.
The system is the result of collaboration between the embassy and ONECI, the Ivorian identification body. It should also facilitate certain civil-status procedures, including registration in birth records and the issuance of birth certificates, according to the embassy note.
The opening of registration in the United States follows ONECI’s rollout of an operation for pupils sitting examinations in Bouaké, announced on 14 October 2026 in the registration of pupils for national identity cards in Bouaké.
