The Criminal Division of the Dori High Court on Friday 30 October 2026 sentenced a man to life imprisonment for assaulting his pregnant partner, Netafrique reported. The accused was found guilty of criminal intentional assault and battery under Article 512-22 of Burkina Faso’s Criminal Code.
The incident took place on the night of 31 August in the village of Torodi, about 10 kilometres from Dori. After learning that his partner was pregnant, the man allegedly wanted to force her to have an abortion before luring her to an isolated location, stabbing her and pouring acid on her face. The victim, who suffered severe burns and injuries to several parts of her body, survived after being taken to Dori Regional Hospital and receiving emergency treatment, according to Netafrique.
The suspect was arrested after the victim, having emerged from a coma, identified him to investigators. Her family, which could not immediately be located, was found three days later through an administrative notice, according to the same media outlet. The sentence came two days after that handed down to two men sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in Bobo-Dioulasso, delivered on 28 October 2026.
