Five patients with Bundibugyo Ebola were declared cured and left hospital in Kenya on 3 November 2026; 46 contacts also completed quarantine. The outbreak total remains nine confirmed cases and two deaths, with no new case since 19 October, according to Kenya’s health ministry.
Five patients infected with the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus disease were declared cured and left hospital on Tuesday 3 November in Kenya. At the same time, 46 people who had been in contact with patients completed their quarantine and returned to their families, according to Kenya’s Ministry of Health.
Two of the recovered patients had been treated at Kenyatta National Hospital and three at Nairobi Hospital. Their treatment is complete, they no longer have symptoms and tests confirmed that the virus had been eliminated. The 46 contacts also completed their 21-day monitoring period without developing the disease.
A further 52 people are due to leave quarantine on 11 November. The total remains nine confirmed cases, including two deaths, and no new case has been reported since 19 October. The authorities said the recorded cases belong to the same group linked to the first imported case, with no community transmission detected.
The official end of the outbreak can only be declared after 42 days without a new case, counted from the recovery or death of the last patient. The ministry is asking families, employers and communities to welcome people who have recovered and those released from quarantine without stigmatising them. This stage follows Kenya’s recovery of its 135 high-risk contacts, announced on 3 November in Ebola contact tracing.
