Kenyan lawyer Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi was reportedly abducted by armed men in Nairobi after a pursuit captured by surveillance cameras. His vehicle was found, but he remains missing as police investigate a possible link to a case before the Makadara court, Citizen Digital reports.

Kenyan lawyer Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi, from Abshir & Njagi Advocates, was abducted by armed men in Nairobi on 1 November, according to Citizen Digital. Police are investigating the disappearance after surveillance footage showed the lawyer being pursued on Muchai Road, near Ngong Road.

The footage shows his car leaving the road and falling into a ditch after being blocked by several vehicles. Abdi then tries to flee on foot before masked men beat him, blindfold him and put him into a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. At least eight men, four of them armed, appear in the footage, according to Citizen Digital. The lawyer’s vehicle was found, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

His colleague Alex Kubo said the abduction could be linked to a case being heard by the Makadara court, in which Abdi had implicated officers from Kenya’s internal intelligence service, the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Directorate of Military Intelligence. Khalid Hussein, chief executive of Vocal Africa, condemned the attack and called for lawyers to be protected in the course of their work.
