The Tunisian Organisation of Young Doctors has announced a day-long strike on 20 November 2026 in six hospitals, demanding payment of on-call allowances that have sometimes gone unpaid for more than nine months. The action could spread if no agreement is reached, despite a commitment made with the Health Ministry in July 2025, according to Business News.
The Tunisian Organisation of Young Doctors has announced a first day of strike on 20 November 2026 in six hospitals, because of delays of more than nine months in the payment of some hospital duty allowances, according to Business News. The action will affect Mongi Slim University Hospital in La Marsa, two university hospitals in Sousse, one facility in Monastir and two facilities in Kairouan.
The work stoppage will concern hospital activities, but on-call duties and emergency services will be maintained to ensure that life-threatening situations are handled. The organisation has threatened to gradually extend the mobilisation to other facilities if its demands go unanswered, according to Business News.
The agreement reached in July 2025 between the young doctors and Tunisia’s Ministry of Health set a maximum period of one month for the payment of the allowances. The doctors are also denouncing unimplemented commitments and a lack of sufficient work clothing, Business News reports.
