A Casablanca family is seeking help for their 16-year-old son, who has been inhaling butane gas for several months. The teenager received treatment in an addiction unit but quickly relapsed, Yabiladi reports.

In Casablanca, Ahmed and Zahra are raising the alarm over their 16-year-old son’s dependence on butane gas. The teenager has been inhaling the substance for eight months and can use a 12-kilogram cylinder in a week, his father told Yabiladi.

The family took the boy to the addiction treatment unit at Abderrahim Harouchi mother-and-child hospital in Casablanca, where he was prescribed treatment and sessions. However, he relapsed, while his consumption has worsened in recent weeks. His parents say they fear his reactions when they try to take the cylinders away from him: agitation, damage and conflicts with neighbours. The teenager has not been going to school for 15 days and the family moved 20 days ago to distance him from an environment they considered unfavourable, Yabiladi reports.
